Equinox Kombucha started the way many good ideas do: with travel. The founders picked up a kombucha habit while backpacking through Asia and came home determined to brew their own. By 2013 they were fermenting batches in a friend's kitchen in Hebden Bridge, that famously eccentric Yorkshire hill town. A year later they were selling from a vintage camper van at markets and festivals.

The 2015 Boxing Day floods could have ended things. Water tore through their workspace and destroyed the equipment. Instead, they rebuilt and opened a proper brewery. That stubbornness paid off. Equinox is now the UK's best-selling kombucha brand, stocked in Waitrose, Holland & Barrett, Co-op and independents across the country.

Their range covers both bottles and cans. The Original delivers that classic kombucha tang from organic green tea, while flavoured options run from Fiery Ginger (properly warming, not just ginger-scented) through to more unusual combinations like Sicilian Orange and Yuzu or Pink Grapefruit and Guava. The can range adds cola and lime, blood orange and tropical options for those who want something closer to a soft drink.

Everything is certified organic, vegan and gluten-free. They became Europe's first B Corp certified kombucha company in 2020, which tracks with their Yorkshire roots and general approach: do it properly or don't bother.

You can order direct from their website with subscriptions available, or pick up bottles and cans at major supermarkets. The flavours sit on the more approachable end of the kombucha spectrum, which explains both the mainstream listings and the brand's position as market leader.
