When Joost de Villebois started experimenting with alcohol-free wine in 2018, he had a clear advantage. His family already owned Vignobles Villebois, an established Loire Valley wine estate with 100 hectares of prime vineyard land near the châteaux of Chenonceau and Chambord. Rather than building from scratch, Divin could draw on existing winemaking infrastructure and expertise.

The project began with wine seltzers before moving into dealcoholised still wines. By 2020, they had released their first 0.0% Sauvignon Blanc. Two years later came the Vigneron collection, marketed as the first alcohol-free terroir wines from the Loire Valley. The distinction matters. These wines aim to express their specific vineyard origins rather than simply removing alcohol from generic base wine.

Winemaker Alessandro Bariè oversees production, adapting dealcoholisation methods to suit each grape variety and vintage. The approach reflects a growing understanding in the industry that no single technique works for every wine. Divin cultivates Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Pinot Noir specifically for their alcohol-free range, selecting parcels where grapes ripen slowly to preserve aromatic complexity.

The current range spans two collections. The Origine line offers 0.0% options including white, rosé, red, and two sparkling wines. The Vigneron collection sits at 0.5% ABV and focuses on varietal character. Eight wines in total, covering most occasions where you might want something wine-like without the alcohol.

Divin now ships to over 40 countries, positioning itself as the Loire Valley's leading alcohol-free wine producer. That regional identity runs through everything they do. The wines taste French, with the mineral edge and restrained fruit you would expect from Touraine rather than the riper, fruitier style of New World alternatives.

What makes Divin unusual in this category is the estate ownership. Most dealcoholised wines are produced from bought-in base wine, with quality control entering the picture late. Here, it starts in the vineyard.
