About This Drink
Veltins brewed their standard Pilsener first, then took the alcohol out using specialist dealcoholisation technology, rather than brewing to low strength from the start. The result sits closer to a proper lager than most 0.0% products, though it carries the characteristic sweetness that dealcoholisation tends to leave behind. It pours pale golden and clear. The aroma is honey and bready dough with a faint hint of Saaz spice and a light citrus edge. On the palate, that honey malt character carries through, with soft toffee notes, low bitterness, and a quiet mineral quality underneath. The body is medium with high carbonation, though it tips slightly syrupy rather than crisp. The finish is short and fades sweet. Anyone expecting the snap of a cold Pilsener may find it a touch soft, but as 0.0% lagers go it's a competent effort from a brewery that clearly knows its way around a fermentation tank.
