Freie Liebe
A tropical-leaning alcohol-free lager from Brauhaus Nittenau, hopped with Sultana and Lotus varieties for orange and pineapple character over a Pilsner and Vienna malt base.
About This Drink
Freie Liebe translates loosely as "free love," and the beer is built around two aroma hop varieties from Hopsteiner, Sultana and Lotus, that push it into tropical territory without it tipping into fruit-juice sweetness. The Pilsner and Vienna malt blend underneath gives a gentle biscuit warmth that keeps things grounded. It pours a deep golden yellow, almost amber at the edges, with a fine white head. The nose is led by orange and pineapple with a faint berry note and a soft vanilla trace from the malt. Nittenau ferments this without traditional dealcoholisation, limiting alcohol production from the start, and there is no detectable alcohol sweetness as a result. On the palate it is round and easy-going. At 23 IBU, bitterness is kept low, and the finish is clean, dry, and hop-scented. A good session option if you want something more interesting than a neutral lager.
