About This Drink
Brewed in the Ardennes hills at Brasserie d'Achouffe, the brewery behind the gnome-branded La Chouffe, this is their 0.4% take on the house style. The yeast does the heavy lifting here, the same strain used in the full-strength version, which is what gives Belgian blondes their signature mix of fruit and spice rather than just grain and bitterness. It pours a lightly hazy yellow-gold with a thin white head. The nose is bread-forward with dried coriander and a little citrus peel underneath. On the palate there's biscuity malt, soft lemon, and a gentle spice note that carries through to a dry, clean finish. The body is light and moderately carbonated, with a mineral quality that keeps it feeling lean rather than watery. Won't replace La Chouffe for anyone used to the full-strength version, but as a 0.4% abbey ale it holds the style together better than most.
