Radler
An alcohol-free Radler from Rügener Insel-Brauerei on Rügen island, with lemon citrus up front and a biscuity malt base keeping it from going sharp.
About This Drink
Rügener Insel-Brauerei sits on Rügen, a Baltic Sea island in northern Germany, and this is their take on the classic German Radler. At under 0.5% ABV it sits within German alcohol-free classification, and it pours a bright pale gold with fine carbonation and a tidy white head. The lemon comes through clearly on the nose, clean and zesty over a quiet grain backdrop. On the palate it stays in that territory: citrus with a soft biscuit malt underneath, balanced enough that it avoids the cloying sweetness that catches out a lot of flavoured lagers. The finish is short and dry, the carbonation doing most of the heavy lifting. Served cold it does what a Radler is supposed to do. Nothing complicated here, but it's put together properly.
