Atopia Hedgerow Berry sits in the same family as Hendrick's Gin, distilled by Lesley Gracie at William Grant & Sons. The botanical base is shared across the Atopia range, with a compote of hedgerow fruits added on top. Blackberries, redcurrants and raspberries form the core; rosehip and pomegranate pull it in a more floral direction, and a hint of spice runs through to the close. The colour is a striking berry pink, clear and bright. On the nose it is tart and fruity, with blackcurrant and raspberry upfront before rosehip softens things out. The palate keeps that tartness going, with the fruit feeling ripe but not sweet. Spice builds through the mid-palate and the finish is dry and lightly astringent, which stops it tipping into cordial territory. Pour it over ice with tonic, or use it as a base for a simple spritz with sparkling water and a squeeze of lime. The tartness makes it a decent option if you find most non-alcoholic spirits too sweet.
