Smokey Isle
A peaty, coastal non-alcoholic whisky alternative made with Scottish barley malt, aged whisky barrel distillates and Scottish seaweed.
About This Drink
Smokey Isle is the bolder of the two Dochus expressions, leaning hard into the smoky, coastal character of Scotland's island whisky tradition. The ingredient list signals where this is headed: Scottish barley malt, aged whisky barrel distillates and Scottish seaweed, rather than the botanical extracts used in the Glen Dochus blends. The nose is striking. Fresh sea breeze carries in with complex smoked sweetness and cigar leaf, before lemon and a touch of apricot provide some lift. On the palate, the body is full and rich, with an elegant smoke giving way to a distinctive warming heat. Spend time with it over ice and the layers open up. The finish lingers with warming spice, black pepper and smoke. Where Island Blend takes a botanical approach to peat character, Smokey Isle gets there via actual distillates. The difference is subtle but worth noting if you are comparing the two.
