About This Drink
The Italian amaro category has deep roots in monastic herbal medicine, and Bottega Elixir Zero is working in that tradition without the alcohol. It draws on a wide range of herbs, spices, and plant extracts, including dried citrus peel, aloe vera, and balsamic botanicals, all sourced from the Veneto region. The colour is a deep, dark amber. On the nose it is herbaceous and layered, with warm spice and balsamic notes sitting alongside dried citrus peel. The palate is softer than you might expect from a bitter, with the bitterness building gradually rather than hitting upfront. It has genuine aromatic persistence, leaving herbal and spiced echoes that linger long after each sip. As a zero-alcohol stand-in for amaro it holds up well. Serve over ice in a tumbler with a twist of orange zest, or neat after dinner at around 7°C. It works in a low-alcohol spritz too, though the aromatic character is probably best appreciated without too much dilution.
