Brauhaus Helles Alkoholfrei
A Bavarian helles lager kept under 0.5% by controlled fermentation, brewed to the Purity Law with barley malt and hops.
About This Drink
Unlike Erdinger's more familiar wheat beer range, this is a helles-style lager from the Erdinger Brauhaus in Bavaria. It's bottom-fermented and brewed to the Purity Law using only water, barley malt, hops, and yeast. Alcohol stays under 0.5% through careful fermentation control rather than dealcoholisation, which keeps the grain character intact. The pour is a clear golden-yellow with a fine white head. Soft malt sweetness comes through first, with a delicate floral hop note and a whisper of honey in the background. The body is light and smooth with lively carbonation, and the finish is mild and clean with just enough hop bitterness to stop it tasting like barley water. It sits closer to a proper lager than many AF alternatives in this style. Nothing challenging here, but it's honest and easy to drink.
