Eins Zwei Zero
Eins Zwei Zero comes from Weingut Leitz, one of Germany's most respected Riesling producers. Johannes Leitz took over his family's estate in Rüdesheim am Rhein in 1985 with just under three hectares. Today the winery spans over 100 hectares, including some of the Rheingau's finest vineyard sites on the steep slopes of the Rüdesheimer Berg.
The alcohol-free range launched in 2016, applying the same quality standards that earned Leitz recognition from critics worldwide. The name translates simply as "one two zero", a nod to the 0.0% alcohol content. Rather than treating alcohol-free wine as an afterthought, Leitz approached it as a serious winemaking challenge.
Production starts with fully fermented wine made from quality grapes. The alcohol is then removed using vacuum distillation at low temperatures, around 29 degrees Celsius. This gentle process preserves the aromatic compounds that give wine its character. The result tastes like wine because it started as wine.
The range centres on what Leitz does best. The Riesling offers citrus and stone fruit with the mineral edge typical of Rheingau wines. A sparkling version adds fine bubbles for celebrations. The Rosé brings strawberry and watermelon notes with crisp acidity. A Chardonnay rounds out the selection, sourced from the warmer Pfalz region for fuller body.
Waitrose stocks several Eins Zwei Zero products in the UK, making them accessible for supermarket shoppers. You'll also find the range in specialist wine merchants and online retailers. The pricing reflects the premium positioning of the parent winery, sitting above most supermarket own-label AF options. A credible choice if you want something with genuine winemaking heritage behind it.
