Zwei-Zero Sparkling Riesling
Dealcoholised sparkling Riesling from the Leitz estate in Germany's Rheingau, with green apple, pear, and a slate mineral edge that makes it feel like the real thing.
About This Drink
This comes from the Leitz estate in Rüdesheim, a well-regarded Riesling address in the Rheingau. The approach is the same as across the range: full fermentation, then vacuum distillation at low temperatures to pull the alcohol out while keeping the fruit character, then carbonation added afterwards. In the glass it is pale straw with fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose there is fresh green apple and pear, a subtle stone fruit note, and the faint petrol and mineral thread that signals genuine Riesling rather than a generic white grape. The palate is crisp and juicy, with clean acidity and enough tingle from the carbonation to keep things lively. The finish is dry, with a trace of slate. It works well as a sparkling wine stand-in at a dinner table. The Riesling character holds up better here than in many dealcoholised sparklers.
