The Leitz estate in Rüdesheim has been making dealcoholised wine since 2016, and this Riesling from the Rheingau and Rheinhessen regions is the one that put the range on the map. The grapes are grown, harvested, and fully fermented before the alcohol is removed by vacuum distillation at around 30°C, a low enough temperature to hold onto the volatile aromatics that make Riesling worth drinking. The result does read as Riesling rather than a generic white. There is lime, lemon, and green apple on the palate, with pear and pineapple adding some softness, and the slate and faint petrol notes that are the variety's signature showing through on the nose. A touch of residual sweetness is there but the acidity keeps it honest, so the finish reads as slightly off-dry rather than sugary. For a dealcoholised white wine this is one of the more convincing examples in its category.
