Lervig exists because a town got angry about bad beer. When Stavanger's Tou Brewery closed in 2003, locals clubbed together to buy the equipment and start something better. Fund manager Kristoffer Stensrud led the charge, and Lervig Aktiebryggeri was born.

The early years were rocky. Quality wobbled, direction was unclear. Then in 2010, everything changed. American brewer Mike Murphy arrived with serious credentials: he'd helped launch Birra del Borgo in Rome and brewed the original Beer Geek Breakfast for Mikkeller in Copenhagen. Murphy brought craft brewing ambition to Stavanger, and Lervig hasn't looked back.

Today they're Norway's largest independent craft brewery, shipping to over 30 countries. The range spans easy-drinking pilsners to barrel-aged stouts and sours, with their Rackhouse programme producing some properly interesting aged beers. Lucky Jack remains a flagship pale ale, while limited releases keep beer geeks hunting.

Their alcohol-free line, No Worries, deserves attention. The brewing approach is clever: they use a yeast strain that cannot ferment maltose, so the beer retains body and flavour without needing alcohol removed afterwards. The Original is a light, hoppy pale ale that actually tastes like beer. Then there's Grapefruit, Mango, Pineapple, a proper Pilsner, and seasonal releases like Fyr! Yuzu. It's one of the more adventurous AF ranges from any craft brewery.

Lervig operates a brewpub in Stavanger, runs brewery tours, and maintains that independent spirit despite bringing in investment to fuel growth. Their international team brings a global perspective to Norwegian brewing, and the quality-first mentality Murphy instilled remains the foundation.

You'll find No Worries in specialist beer shops and online retailers across the UK and Europe. For craft beer drinkers who want the same creativity applied to their alcohol-free options, Lervig delivers.
