Island Blend is the most intense spirit in the Glen Dochus range. The other blends lean sweet and approachable. This one is powerful, smoky and deliberately challenging. Cairngorm Highland Spring Water and botanical extracts form the base, but the flavour profile goes somewhere altogether darker. The nose gives you heavily toasted malt, peaty earth and hints of bitter-sweet chocolate. Coffee bean notes add a roasted complexity alongside the sea-salt warmth. On the palate, peat smoke and liquorice dominate, threaded through with black pepper, bitter chocolate and candied peel. There is a genuine sense of richness here rather than thin smoke. The finish is punchy and direct, with a well-defined warmth that holds on. If you have a taste for peated whisky and want an alcohol-free equivalent that takes the style seriously, this is the obvious place to start in the range.
