About This Drink
Old Peculier is one of those ales with genuine history behind it, so the 0.0% version has something to live up to. Theakston use the original recipe with Fuggle, Challenger, and Progress hops, removing the alcohol through filtration rather than brewing to low strength. Whether that makes a difference you can judge yourself, but the end result pours dark ruby and drinks fuller than most 0.0% beers manage. The aroma has cherry and banana up front, with roasted grain underneath. In the glass there's dark fruit and biscuity malt, and then the Fuggles kick in with a herbal bitterness that rounds things off cleanly. The finish is gently bitter and doesn't linger too long. It's one of the better alcohol-free dark ales around. If you liked Old Peculier or just want something with more body than a standard pale, this is worth trying.
