That matters because the flavour has a slightly constructed quality: vanilla, caramel and the warm baking spices come through clearly but feel layered in rather than developed through fermentation and time in wood. That said, it does the job it's designed for. The sweetness is genuine, the spice warmth lingers through the finish, and there's enough body to sit in a mixer without disappearing. In a rum and Coke or a dark-and-stormy-style build it holds up better than you might expect from something with no alcohol base.
