About This Drink
Lowlander's 0.00 Wit is a proper witbier built in the traditional white beer style, with a citrus twist that comes from a slightly unusual source. The orange and lemon peels used in brewing are collected from bars and restaurants in Amsterdam through a partnership with PeelPioneers, a food-waste charity. It is not just a marketing angle: the peels come through in the flavour. Pale straw with a soft haze, it pours with a persistent creamy head and a velvety, lightly viscous body. Fresh lemon and orange lead on the nose, backed by faint pale malt and a light floral hop note. On the palate the citrus reads as sweet-sour, lip-puckering at first then settling into something juicier. The bitterness is gentle and fruity rather than hop-driven. The finish is clean and dry. At 0.0% ABV it is one of the few genuinely alcohol-free witbiers available, and one of the better ones.
