Piquant is built on de-alcoholised Airen Blanco from La Mancha, with peach, elderflower, and ginger juice concentrates blended in after the alcohol is removed to restore body and fruit character. It pours pale gold, clear and straightforward. The nose is gentle: fresh lemon, a hint of green apple, and light elderflower. On the palate it is clean and dry rather than rich, with citrus and white fruit flavours sitting against a soft mineral background. There is a touch of sweetness from the fruit concentrates but it does not take over, and the finish is short and dry. The mineral quality gives it a little more interest than the average de-alcoholised white. At 11 calories per 100ml it is the lightest of the still wines in the Wednesday's Domaine range.
