FreeGlider was developed to do a specific job: stand in for gin when gin isn't what you want. Sipsmith put the work in on botanicals, using capsicum to supply the warmth that alcohol would usually provide. It's a sensible solution to a real problem, and it works reasonably well. The nose is led by juniper and lemon zest with some eucalyptus behind it. Clear and bright without being sharp. On the palate the citrus comes through first, clean and lemon-forward, then the capsicum warmth builds through the middle. The finish is dry and piney with a brief heat that fades quickly. It's not gin, but it sits in the same lane. In a long pour with tonic it reads convincingly. The botanicals are balanced enough that it doesn't taste like a compromise.
