Lazer Crush is brewed in collaboration with Belgium's De Proefbrouwerij using a CHR Hansen Neer yeast strain. The yeast works on the glucose in the wort rather than the maltose, which means fermentation happens normally but very little alcohol is produced. It's a different approach to most alcohol-free beers and it shows in the glass. The aroma is tropical from the off: mango and passion fruit from the Citra and Amarillo hops, backed by citrus peel and a faint biscuit malt note. On the palate, peach and lemon lead, with Azacca hops adding some pine resin and structure. The bitterness is present and clean rather than thin or watery. Body is medium with a slightly creamy texture, which is unusual for a sub-0.5% beer. The finish is dry and citrus-tinged. The sugar content is on the higher side given the way the yeast works, so it's worth bearing in mind if that matters to you. As a single can it's among the better AF IPAs out there.
