Jever Fun has been around since 1991, which makes it one of the longer-established alcohol-free beers in Europe. It's brewed as a full-strength pilsner using soft water from Friesland, with a higher hop rate than most lagers, then dealcoholised at low temperature to preserve what the hops brought during fermentation. The result is a pale gold pilsner that leans heavily on the bitter side. Saaz hops come through with a grassy, herbal character and a clean grain backbone underneath. The finish is genuinely dry, with no residual sweetness to round things off. At 15 calories per 100ml and no sugar, it sits at the leaner end of the category. It suits drinkers who find most alcohol-free lagers too bland or too sweet. If you want something with a bit of bite, this is worth trying.
