Funky Fluid built their reputation on bold, uncompromising beers, and Free Cloudy is their attempt to bring those standards to a non-alcoholic NEIPA. Brewed to 10.5° Plato to give it body and structure, it is more ambitious than most entries in the category. The pour is hazy and golden, classic New England, with a soft white head. Tropical fruit leads on the nose: mango, passionfruit and citrus. There is resinous hop character underneath, grassy and green, which becomes more noticeable as the beer warms. On the palate, the juiciness is genuine. The bitterness is present and purposeful, citrus peel driving through the back of the tongue, and the finish dries cleanly. It is not the same as its alcoholic counterpart, but the gap is smaller than most zero-ABV IPAs manage. The 10.5° Plato base means it has enough weight to feel like a proper drink rather than a hop-flavoured water.
