About This Drink
Limbo Riesling is the odd one out in Mikkeller's range. It's categorised as a Flemish Primitive, a style rooted in Belgian spontaneous fermentation tradition, brewed with mikkellensis yeast and Riesling grape juice sourced from Mikkeller's own vineyard. The grape addition is 1%, which sounds modest but comes through more clearly than the number suggests. The aroma is unusual: intensely fruity in a way that sits somewhere between a hop-forward pale ale and actual grape juice. Lemon and tropical notes from the yeast are present alongside the Riesling's distinctive floral and citrus character. On the palate, white grape and lemonade qualities dominate, underpinned by the beer's acidity rather than any conventional malt backbone. The finish is tart and dry, with a clean citrus fade. Best ice-cold, ideally in a wine glass or tulip where the aroma has room to open. It doesn't sit neatly in the beer or wine category, which is either a selling point or a warning depending on what you're after.
