About This Drink
Low Five takes a different approach to the alcohol-free IPA problem than most. Where many breweries pull back on hops to avoid astringency without alcohol to balance, Nøgne Ø keeps the bitterness in play, relying on a strong tropical fruit character to hold the whole thing together. The nose is fresh pineapple and passion fruit with mango underneath. On the palate, the fruit stays vivid: mango and pineapple dominate, citrus zest rounds the edges, and the medium bitterness runs steadily through the sip rather than spiking at the end. At IBU 30, there's enough backbone to keep things from running sweet, though it's never aggressive. The finish is clean and fairly short, with a faint citrus dryness that fades quickly. It's a bright, forward beer that sits comfortably in the IPA bracket without trying to impress with complexity.
