About This Drink
Kasteel Rouge 0.0 is the non-alcoholic take on Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck's cherry fruit beer, brewed in Izegem, Belgium. The recipe uses cherry concentrate alongside a blend of classic hops including Kent Golding and Fuggle, giving it more structure than a straight fruit drink. The colour is a striking deep ruby with a full pink head. Cherry leads on the nose, joined by a hint of elderflower, and neither overstates itself. On the palate there is a smooth medium body with enough malt underneath to keep the fruit from feeling one-dimensional. The acidity is mild and well-judged, stopping it tipping into sweetness overload. Cherry lingers into the finish without becoming cloying. It suits a wine glass more than a pint, and works well alongside dark chocolate or something with a bit of tartness to it.
