About This Drink
Virmalised means "northern lights" in Estonian. This is the zero-ABV take on Põhjala's best-known IPA, built around Citra and Yellow Sub hops with a grain bill of Dextrin malt, Crystal malts and golden naked oats. Spruce tips and lactose are added during the brew, contributing a distinctive aroma and a creamy texture. The nose is bright: lemon zest and mixed citrus upfront, pineapple underneath, with delicate floral notes drifting through. On the palate it's smooth and creamy from the oat and lactose combination, with overripe mango and melon at the front and subtle resinous depth from the spruce. Lively carbonation keeps it from feeling heavy. The finish is clean and citrus-forward, fading on lemon zest with a faint resinous note. If you know the alcoholic Virmalised, this follows the same blueprint. If you don't, it's an honest non-alcoholic IPA with a distinctive character. Contains lactose and barley, not suitable for vegans or those avoiding gluten.
