La Pirata is based in Súria, northwest of Barcelona. Unchained is their core alcohol-free IPA: pale ale and dextrin malt as the base, Galaxy and Citra hops, 20 IBU. It's left unfiltered and then pasteurised. At under 0.5% ABV it's properly low rather than just labelled as such. The pour is vibrant amber, hazy from the lack of filtration, with a white foam head. Citra and Galaxy come through in the aroma as mango and grapefruit peel, with a light grassy note underneath. On the palate the bitterness is measured rather than assertive. The dextrin malt contributes a soft sweetness that keeps things balanced without tipping into cloying territory. The finish is clean and dry, with citrus peel hanging around. Medium-light body, moderate carbonation. A solid AF IPA that doesn't overreach.
