About This Drink
The Helles is Munich's everyday lager, built around subtle malt character and restrained hop bitterness rather than big flavours. This AF version follows the same recipe and removes the alcohol after fermentation, which tends to produce a more beer-like result than brewing to low ABV from the start. Pours clear pale golden with a white head. The nose is quiet in the way the style always is: hay, a light herbal note from the Hallertauer hops, and a faint grain sweetness. On the palate it's gentle and malt-forward, with just enough hop character to keep things balanced. A subtle dryness builds through the mid-palate into the finish, which fades cleanly without any sweetness problem. It's isotonic and 24 kcal per 100ml, which makes it one of the more practical AF options for post-exercise. As a pub-style lager it's understated, but that's the point.
