Lucky Saint
Lucky Saint emerged in 2018 from founder Luke Boase's two-year quest to find the right brewing partner. After visiting six breweries across Europe, he landed on a Bavarian operation willing to take alcohol-free beer seriously. The result was a brand built around one core belief: the occasions where we drink beer should work just as well without the alcohol.
The flagship Unfiltered Lager sets the tone. Brewed in Bavaria over six weeks using traditional lagering methods, the beer stays unfiltered to retain body and depth. Vacuum distillation removes the alcohol without stripping out the character. Pour it into a glass and you get a slightly hazy golden lager with genuine malt backbone. This is engineered to satisfy actual beer drinkers, not just people looking for a placeholder.
The range has expanded thoughtfully. A Hazy IPA arrived in late 2023, bringing New World hops and tropical fruit notes to the lineup. A Lemon Lager offers something lighter for summer sessions. But the Unfiltered Lager remains the anchor, the beer that built the reputation.
Lucky Saint has pushed hard on hospitality. Their Marylebone pub, opened in 2023, operates as a proper London boozer that happens to specialise in alcohol-free options. They were early movers in getting AF beer on draught in pubs and restaurants, launching keg supply in early 2020 just before the world went sideways. That timing meant they were well-positioned when hospitality reopened and venues started taking their AF offerings more seriously.
You will find Lucky Saint in most major UK supermarkets now, from Tesco to Waitrose. The brand has become something of a gateway for people exploring the alcohol-free category. It looks like beer, pours like beer, and crucially tastes enough like beer that you can hand one to a sceptic and watch their assumptions shift.
The company holds B Corp certification, which speaks to broader commitments beyond just making decent beer. Premium pricing and wide availability make Lucky Saint one of the more accessible entry points into the category.
