Zeno
Zeno takes its name from a Cypriot trader who was shipwrecked off Greece in the 4th century BC and went on to study under Socrates. The brand's founding principles echo the philosopher's four virtues: Moderation, Justice, Wisdom, and Courage.
Founded by wine trade veterans David Hodgson and Will Willis, Zeno launched in 2022 after David went alcohol-free for health reasons. They partnered with a Spanish winery and assembled a team including a leading Master of Wine to bring proper credentials to the category.
Production happens at the La Carrasca vineyard in Castille-La Mancha, Spain. The team monitors grapes from planting through harvest on this single estate, then uses low temperature vacuum distillation to remove alcohol in a single pass. Minimal intervention preserves the wine's natural character.
The range includes Viura (crisp and fruity), Bobal Rosé (fresh and zesty), Tempranillo Cabernet (vibrant and spicy), and sparkling options. They've picked up recognition at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, Global Wine Master Competition, and World Alcohol-Free Awards, often judged alongside full-strength wines.
Available at Waitrose and through specialist retailers including Dry Drinker. The premium positioning and single-estate sourcing put Zeno at the more serious end of the alcohol-free wine category.
