About This Drink
Kaineken Citra is part of Õllenaut's non-alcoholic Kaineken range, brewed at the brewery's home in Saku, Estonia. The name translates to 'sober zen', and the range is built around a new-generation yeast developed specifically for low-alcohol brewing. That means the beer ferments directly at low ABV rather than being stripped back after the fact, which helps preserve aroma and hop character. Single-hopped with Citra, it pours a pale gold with a clean white head. The nose comes straight at you: lemon zest, a thread of lime, and a faint tropical undercurrent. On the palate it is brisk and dry, with Citra's characteristic citrus pith bitterness sitting over a light biscuit malt base. The finish is short and clean. A well-made, uncluttered beer. If Citra-forward pales are your thing, this is a solid example of what the hop can do without alcohol getting in the way.
