Õllenaut started the way many craft breweries do: frustration with boring beer. Brewmaster Ilmar couldn't find anything interesting on Estonian shop shelves, so he started brewing at home. By 2012, demand from friends had grown enough to justify a proper operation. The first commercial beers arrived in November 2013.

What sets Õllenaut apart is their commitment to local ingredients. They're the only Estonian brewery sourcing domestically, believing every beer should carry genuine local character. That philosophy extends to their Kaineken alcohol-free range, launched as the brewery expanded into new territory.

The Kaineken name translates to 'sober zen', which captures the intention. Rather than removing alcohol from finished beer, Õllenaut uses a specialised yeast that naturally produces minimal alcohol. The brewing process stays identical to their regular beers. Nothing removed, nothing added artificially.

The range covers serious styles. The Pale Ale delivers bitter, malty character with a frothy head. The IPA shows golden amber colour with citrus, tropical fruit, and pine hop notes over a smooth malt body. Most intriguing is the Smoked Porter, blending toasted malt, chocolate, and smoke in a way that's rarely attempted in alcohol-free brewing.

Õllenaut commands around 28% of Estonia's craft beer market and appears in premium supermarket chains nationwide. International availability comes through UK specialists like Dry Drinker. Baltic craft brewing rarely makes it this far west, and the Kaineken range is a decent reason to pay attention.
