About This Drink
Low Intervention Sparkling Orange Nº1 is a dealcoholised orange wine from Alsace, made from organic Gewürztraminer, Muscat, Sylvaner, and Pinot Gris grown on clay-limestone soils. Whole clusters are gently crushed and left to macerate on their skins for seven days, extracting colour, phenolics, and the aromatic compounds that define the orange wine style. After natural fermentation, it ages for twelve months in stainless steel before alcohol removal at low temperature. The pour is a warm amber-gold. The nose is aromatic and layered: ripe peach and orange peel come through first, then jasmine, soft herbs, and a thread of spice from the Gewürztraminer. On the palate there is genuine texture, a round and gently structured mouthfeel from the skin contact, with apricot, dried citrus peel, and herbal notes running through. The tannins are soft rather than grippy. This is Oddbird going further than most alcohol-free producers are willing to. Seven days on skins is a real commitment, and the result has the amber colour and textural presence that orange wine drinkers are looking for.
