Heineken's mainstream AF lager, brewed with light malt, hops and yeast, then put through slow alcohol evaporation to strip out the ABV.

Amstel 0.0 sits squarely in the mainstream lager end of the alcohol-free market. The base is light barley malt with hops, and Heineken's slow evaporation process does the job of removing the alcohol without high heat. The result is a pale golden pour that behaves like a lager should: light-bodied, softly carbonated, and easy to drink. The malt comes through more noticeably than the hops. There's some caramel sweetness in the background, a faint herbal note from the hops, and a gentle bitterness on the finish. The sweetness typical of many AF lagers is present here, though it doesn't overwhelm. At 25 calories per 100ml it's one of the lighter options in the category. It's a safe, competent alcohol-free lager. Anyone who drinks the full-strength Amstel will recognise the profile. Won't surprise you, but it won't disappoint either.
