About This Drink
Domaine de la Prade is an organic alcohol-free red from the Languedoc-Roussillon region, made by Oddbird from Merlot and Syrah. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and then rested on fine lees for twelve months to build texture and integration before the alcohol is gently removed. The pour is a deep ruby. On the nose, sour cherry and ripe plum open things up, followed by blackberry and a hint of caramel. The palate is juicy and fruit-forward, with a sweet mid-palate that gives way to a more structured, dry finish. Tannins are present but restrained, which gives the wine some backbone without tipping into austerity. For an alcohol-free red, the lees ageing does real work here. It has more body and grip than most in this category, and the finish holds long enough to feel like a proper wine rather than a soft approximation.
