Primitivo
Dealcoholised Primitivo from Puglia, with ripe dark berry fruit and soft tannins that give it more body than most alcohol-free reds.
About This Drink
The Primitivo grape is grown in Puglia in southern Italy, where the heat of the Mediterranean summer concentrates the fruit into something naturally bold and ripe. Alcohol is removed by vacuum distillation at around 30°C, low enough to keep the primary fruit aromas largely intact. Pour it and you get a deep ruby. The nose is ripe cherry and plum with a dusting of spice behind. On the palate there's genuine presence: dark berry fruit, soft tannins and a rounded, plush texture that holds up reasonably well without alcohol. The finish settles into mild sweetness. The sugar comes in at 6.5g per 100ml, which is on the higher side, but it reads more as fruit ripeness than anything added. It's one of the more convincing dealcoholised reds in this category, with enough body and colour to satisfy if you're after something substantial.
