About This Drink
Früh has been brewing Kölsch in Cologne since 1904, and their 0,0% version follows the same path as the full-strength beer before dealcoholisation. Brewing first, then removing the alcohol after maturation is the approach most likely to get you a recognisable style, and it shows here. The beer pours a clear pale amber. On the nose there's sweet wholemeal bread, a light cereal grain note, and a faint grassy hop presence. The palate follows through with lightly toasted barley, a soft fruity quality, and just enough of a sour edge to keep things from going flat. Bitterness is restrained throughout, which is true to the style. It's a medium-bodied pour with prickly carbonation, finishing clean and slightly dry. Kölsch drinkers will find it familiar enough to be worth their time.
