About This Drink
Rothaus runs one of the few steam-under-vacuum dealcoholisation systems in Germany, and it was acquired specifically for this beer. The process removes alcohol at low temperature, and the aroma recovery stage captures volatile hop compounds that standard processing would lose. The result is an alcohol-free pilsner that doesn't taste stripped. The nose opens with freshly cut hay and wild meadow herbs, typical of Tettnang and Hallertau hops, over light biscuit malt with a faint background of honey. On the palate, the hop character pushes forward early: spicy and floral, with restrained cereal sweetness behind it. The body is light, carbonation lively. The finish is dry and firmly bitter, and it lingers longer than most alcohol-free beers manage. Unpretentious and well-made.
