About This Drink
NuWave is a Yorkshire brand doing something specific: brewing a proper alcohol-free lager and then loading it with mood-supporting botanicals. The base is made by stopping fermentation before alcohol builds beyond 0.5%, which keeps the lager character intact. Post-fermentation, a blend of ashwagandha root, maca root, lion's mane, guarana seed and pepper is added alongside heat-treated probiotic strains from ADM. It pours light amber with a modest head. The nose is quiet, mostly malt with a faint earthiness from the botanicals. The palate is clean and crisp, built on biscuit malt, with a mild herbal note running underneath that you wouldn't find in a standard lager. The finish is short and dry. Whether the adaptogenic additions do anything for your mood is a different question. As a drink, it's a solid AF lager with a bit of extra going on. At 18 calories per 100ml, vegan and gluten-free, it's a light one.
