About This Drink
Sanguine is a still red built on de-alcoholised Tempranillo from La Mancha. After de-alcoholisation, the base wine is blended with black cherry and ginger juice concentrates, with a small amount of malic acid added to provide structure and freshness in the absence of alcohol. It pours a mid ruby with decent depth of colour. The nose carries light red fruit: cherry, a touch of plum, and a faint spice note. On the palate it is lighter than a conventional table red, which is to be expected. The tannins are smooth, the cherry and plum notes come through clearly, and the ginger adds a gentle warmth to the finish. The balance leans toward fruit rather than dry astringency. It is honest about what it is: a light, fruit-forward red that works without alcohol. The malic acid addition is a thoughtful touch that stops it tasting flat.
