Estrella Galicia 0.0 Tostada
A dark amber alcohol-free lager from A Coruña, blending six malts at varying roast levels for more complexity than the standard 0.0.
About This Drink
Where the standard 0.0 is clean and uncomplicated, the Tostada goes somewhere more interesting. Six malt varieties, each roasted to a different level, sit alongside three hop varieties: Nugget, Perle, and Sladek. The same interrupted fermentation process is used across the range, halting the yeast early rather than removing alcohol afterwards. It pours dark amber with orange tints. Roasted grain and bread crust lead on the nose, with a gentle nuttiness and some floral hop notes sitting underneath. On the palate, there is initial malt sweetness, then light acidity, then a dry and moderately bitter finish that lingers. The body is lighter than the colour suggests, which keeps it from being heavy, but the malt complexity gives it more presence than a standard pale lager. Worth trying if you find most alcohol-free lagers too one-dimensional.
