Face Hopper AF IPA
A 0.5% hazy IPA from Tempest Brewing, built on oats and wheat for body, with Idaho 7, Mosaic, and Krush in the hop bill.
About This Drink
Most 0.5% IPAs thin out where it matters most: the body. Face Hopper addresses that by leaning on flaked oats and flaked wheat, which gives the beer a soft, rounded weight that carries the hop character rather than letting it drift. The hop bill is doing serious work here. Idaho 7 brings resinous pine and citrus peel, Mosaic layers tropical fruit underneath, and Krush pushes lychee and lime forward. Pour it into a wide glass and the aroma opens up: grapefruit zest, pine resin, ripe mango, with a faint biscuity grain note underneath. On the palate it is juicy and rounded, the tropical fruit coming first, with a clean, moderate bitterness in the tail. The finish dries out a bit, the citrus holding on without turning harsh. It is one of the more convincing AF IPAs around. The body is fuller than most and the hop character is genuine, not a thin approximation of it.
