Bon Voyage's Cabernet Sauvignon comes from France, where the wine is first produced conventionally before the alcohol is removed via spinning cone technology. It's a gentler process than vacuum distillation and does a better job of holding onto the aromatic compounds that make a Cab Sauv smell and taste like one. In the glass it pours a deep, almost opaque purple. The nose is classically varietal: blackcurrant, cherry, blackberry, and a thread of prune running underneath, with spice adding some depth. On the palate things are juicy and round, and the tannins are worth noting for a dealcoholised wine. They're soft, but they're there, giving the wine a sense of structure rather than the flat, sweet impression you get from lesser examples. The spice returns mid-palate and carries through to a finish that has genuine length. At 32 calories per 100ml it's roughly half the count of a standard red.
