Sauvignon Blanc
Dealcoholised Sauvignon Blanc from Spanish grapes, with a noticeably expressive gooseberry and tropical fruit nose for an alcohol-free wine.
About This Drink
Made by Reh Kendermann for the Waitrose own-label range, using Spanish Sauvignon Blanc grapes fermented fully before alcohol is removed via low-temperature vacuum distillation. A small amount of invert sugar syrup and flavouring rounds out the profile, with carbon dioxide added for a faint effervescence. The aroma is the standout here: fresh gooseberry, cut grass, and a solid hit of tropical fruit that you don't always get in dealcoholised whites. Passion fruit leads on the palate with ripe citrus behind it, the acidity relatively bright. The finish is short, with a slightly sweet tropical fade. At 20 calories per 100ml, it's light in every respect. For a supermarket own-label, this holds up reasonably well. The nose does a lot of the work.
