About This Drink
Leffe Ruby 0.0% is built on the same abbey ale base as the rest of the Leffe range, with elderberry juice concentrate added to push it towards red fruit territory. The result is visually striking, deep ruby with a white head, and the berry character follows through on the nose and palate. Aromas of raspberry and strawberry come through first, with clove spice behind them and a light floral note. The palate leads with sweet red fruit, then the clove warmth picks up in the middle before fading into a smooth, gently sweet finish. The earthiness from the elderberry keeps it from being cloying, and the lively carbonation lifts it. It's lighter than a traditional abbey ale and noticeably sweeter, which will suit some drinkers more than others. The fruit integration is genuine rather than artificial-tasting. Worth trying if you're curious about the abbey ale format but find straight malt beers a bit flat.
