About This Drink
Freixenet's still red is produced the same way as the rest of the 0,0 range: conventional fermentation followed by vacuum distillation at low temperature. The process removes the alcohol while keeping the volatile aromatic compounds that give red wine its character. The colour is a deep ruby. Ripe plum and dark cherry come through clearly on the nose, with raisin, black pepper, and a faint smoky depth behind them. The palate carries the same ripe fruit through, with balanced acidity stopping it from feeling heavy. There are no real tannins, which is typical once the alcohol goes, but the fruit concentration is enough that it doesn't feel thin. It's a more convincing glass than you might expect from a dealcoholised red. The fruit is genuine rather than confected, and the finish is clean without the sugary aftertaste that can undermine the category.
