Holunder is elderflower in German, and that is exactly what this is: the elderflower flavour leads from start to finish. The wheat beer brings body and a faint yeasty note, but it stays firmly in the background. This reads more as a lightly flavoured soft drink that happens to contain beer than the other way round. At 27 kcal per 100ml it is one of the lighter options in the Franziskaner Alkoholfrei range. The carbonation is spritzy, the finish is clean and faintly sweet, and it needs to be served properly cold.
