About This Drink
Rothaus blends its dealcoholised Schwarzwaldzäpfle wheat beer with a lightly sweetened citrus drink in a straight 50/50 split. The decision to use natural fruit juice rather than crystalline citric acid is a meaningful one: the lemon character stays rounded and integrated rather than landing sharp and thin. It pours a light hazy gold, the cloudiness coming from the beer component. Lemon peel and lemongrass come through clearly on the nose, with faint background grain perceptible underneath. The palate is exactly what the nose suggests: moderate sweetness, genuine citrus, and a subtle cereal note that keeps it grounded as a beer-based drink rather than a glorified lemon squash. At 0.0% and 26 kcal per 100ml it's about as light as radlers come. The natural cloudiness and two-component blend make it a more considered take on the style than most.
