Alexander Gordon opened his distillery in Southwark, London in 1769, choosing the location for its clean water supply. Over two and a half centuries later, his gin remains one of the most recognised spirits in the world. Now owned by Diageo and distilled in Scotland, Gordon's moved into the alcohol-free category in 2021 with their 0.0% range.

The original London Dry recipe uses juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, liquorice, orris root, and citrus peel. Only a handful of people know the exact proportions. That secrecy might sound like marketing theatre, but the recipe has stayed remarkably consistent since the 18th century. The distinctive green bottle arrived in 1904 and became a fixture in British cabinets.

Gordon's 0.0% aims to capture the juniper-forward character of the original without the alcohol. Made using distilled botanicals, it sits at less than 0.05% ABV, meeting the UK threshold for alcohol-free labelling. The result is a spirit substitute that works in a G&T format, with that familiar pine and citrus profile coming through clearly. Gordon's Pink 0.0% followed in 2022, adding raspberry and strawberry notes for those who prefer the sweeter style.

For a brand with such heritage, the move into alcohol-free was significant. Gordon's dominates the gin market, and their 0.0% versions brought alcohol-free spirits to a much wider audience than craft alternatives had reached. You'll find both in every major supermarket, often at competitive prices compared to specialist AF brands.

The quality sits in the reliable rather than remarkable category. These aren't trying to reinvent alcohol-free spirits. They're giving existing Gordon's drinkers a way to enjoy their usual serve without the alcohol. For that purpose, they work well.
